What is the Bowen Technique?

The Bowen Technique simply stated allows the body to reset and heal itself.

How does it work?

A Bowen treatment consists of a series of gentle moves on skin (or through light clothing), with the client usually lying on a treatment couch. A treatment session usually lasts from half an hour to an hour and frequently results in a deep sense of overall relaxation, allowing the body to recharge and balance itself.

Recent studies have shown the beneficial effects of deep levels of relaxation on our immune and hormonal systems. However, the Bowen Technique can also be extremely effective for musculo-skeletal problems such as back, shoulder, knee & neck pain, sports & accident injuries and many other ailments and discomforts.
One Bowen move may address the entire system producing maximum results with minimal intervention, it encourages a gentle response which empowers the body's own resources to heal itself. As this process can continue for several days applying other manipulative therapies during this time can interrupt this process and undermine the overall effectiveness of the Bowen work. It is recommended that the client waits a week before commencing any other manual therapy.

Is it suitable for me?

The Bowen Technique is gentle and is considered suitable for everyone - from newborn infants to pregnant women, the frail and the elderly. The chronically ill and the disabled may also benefit.
The Bowen moves are light, gentle and very precise. Frequent pauses between moves give the body time to respond and benefit.

“I feel so much better in myself”

The multi-tasking, truly holistic style of Bowen helps to reset many of the body’s structural and chemical alignments which can lead to a feeling of well-being, improvement in sleep, digestion and stress levels.

Where did the Bowen Technique originate?

The Bowen Technique was developed in the 1950’s by the late Thomas A Bowen in Geelong, Australia
Oswald and Elaine Rentsch were commissioned by Tom Bowen to document and teach this exciting modality. Currently, Certified Practitioners are using the Bowen Technique in Australia, North America, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and Europe.
