Many years ago I became attracted to Buddhism an intrinsic part of which is, of course, meditation. I went on a few retreats to a Buddhist sanctuary and learned that the Friends of the Western Buddhist order (now called Triratna Buddhist Community) taught two meditations they are; Mindfulness of Breathing and The Metta Bhavana (the development of loving kindness.) I did not become a Buddhist but have great respect for Buddhists and Buddhism as a philosophy.
If for whatever reason people become attracted to meditation that’s just got to be a good thing. The effect of meditation on the mind and body has been quantified scientifically. In a meditative state both the heart and respiration is significantly slowed down. Meditation has the ability to neutralize the harmful impact of depression, anxiety and stress.
