A Newport based Bowen Therapist has achieved a new national standard for her practice.

Liz Auliffe has been registered by the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC), the government backed UK regulatory body for complementary healthcare practitioners.

The recognition places her at the forefront of a national drive to provide a benchmark for standards and safety for the public. Practitioners registered with the CNHC meet national occupational standards and abide by a rigorous code of conduct, performance and ethics.

Liz said: “Achieving CNHC registration is not only great news for me and my clients, but a vital step for the Bowen Technique.”

The Bowen Technique can be very effective in treating back and neck pain, knee problems, RSI and Frozen Shoulder.  It is a gentle therapy where the practitioner uses thumbs and fingers to make a series if precise rolling-type moves over muscle.

There are short breaks during the treatment where that patient is left resting to allow their body to respond to the gentle moves that have been performed.  The rest period is an important part of the treatment and gives the body time to make the subtle and fine adjustments which help to re-balance, relieve tension and reduce pain. The treatment is suitable for all and can be performed through light clothing.

Liz added that: “the Bowen Technique is one of 10 disciplines now recognised by the CNHC”.  Members of the public can search the CNHC register to find practitioners in their local area. More than 40,000 searches have been carried out so far this year.

“By providing a verification of standards, the CNHC allows GPs, hospitals, private healthcare providers and insurance companies to refer patients, with confidence, to practitioners of the Bowen Technique or to make the therapy more readily available in health centres, clinics, doctors’ surgeries and hospitals.”
